US President Joe Biden is scheduled to meet Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on May 1, 2022, at the White House to discuss efforts to uphold international law and promote a free and open Indo-Pacific.

US President Joe Biden is scheduled to meet Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on May 1, 2022, at the White House to discuss efforts to uphold international law and promote a free and open Indo-Pacific.

The meeting is set against the backdrop of heightened tensions with China, which was displeased by the Marcos government giving the US access to four more military bases under the Enhanced Defence Cooperation Agreement, three of which are close to Taiwan.

The two leaders will review opportunities to deepen economic ties and tackle issues such as clean energy transition, climate change, and human rights.
